This 4th grade lesson uses Kahlo's Self Portrait Along the Border Line Between Mexico and the United States to teach about immigrants often mixed feelings on immigration. We use the art to discuss the symbolsim, cost, and purpose of Immigration.

Second Grade. In this simple art lesson we learn the basis of Surrealism using animals to represent each of us. In The Wounded Deer, Frida Kahlo uses a deer as the rest of her body. Why would she do that in a self portrait?

You Can Do Great Things Even when it is Challenging

In this 3rd Grade lesson students are assigned a fake "disability" in which they have to use the opposite hand to write a prompt. Then we use the story of Frida Kahlo, a woman with severe physical limatations, was still able to create beautiful artwork.
